Mixpanel's mission is to help the world learn from their data. We've made it ridiculously easy to run extremely complex queries across massive amounts of data, all in real-time - our reports are literally to-the-second.

We're currently processing over 10 billion transactions per month from gaming, mobile, social, and e-commerce companies world-wide. This volume of data, and types of analysis we can do, give us some uniquely interesting problems to solve: scaling, data integrity, building api's, availability, and data visualization.

Backend engineers help Mixpanel keep up with the immense amount of data volume growth we get each month. They build fast, scalable, distributed, and fault-tolerant systems. Our backend engineers are ready to use existing software without reinventing the wheel, but they benchmark the hell out of it first - and if it's not good enough, they'll build something better.

At some companies, scaling is a solved problem.  At Mixpanel, you'll learn new things about distributed systems every day.

Expectations

• You have mastered one programming language. We write C, Python, and Javascript heavily.
• You have an excellent understanding of fundamental data structures.
• You understand performance tradeoffs.
• You are careful and detailed oriented.
• You watch IO and other potential bottlenecks like a hawk.
• You have built (and are dying to show us) something you're proud of, outside of work/school.
